Abstract
This study aims to assess the knowledge on the prevention of ophthalmia neonatorum among pregnant women attending Civil Service Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State.  The study adopted a descriptive survey design in which four research questions were posed. The population of the study was 50 pregnant women while the whole 50 women was selected out of the total population of the pregnant women in the study area. Five-point scale questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. The instrument was adequately validated with its reliability established using test-retest. Data collected were analyzed using mean scores. Based on the data collected and carefully analyzed, the researcher made the following findings 10(20%) strongly agreed that there are several causes of ophthalmia neonatorum including bacteria virus, chemical etc. 10(20%) agreed, 25(50%) disagreed and only 5(10%) strongly disagreed to the statement. And 10(20%) strongly agreed and agreed respectively that there are many symptoms or signs measured. almia neonatorum including redness, discharge and swelling of the eye within 28 days of birth, and 15(30%) disagreed and strongly disagreed respectively to the statement. Based on the findings concluded that there was a significantly low level of knowledge among pregnant women attending civil service hospitals. And there was also a significant increase in knowledge level among participants following the implementation of the educational intervention. And there was no significant relationship between the knowledge on ophthalmia neonatorum and the effectiveness of the existing educational interventions on the prevention of ophthalmia neonatorum  among  pregnant women attending the Civil Service Hospital in Ilorin, Kwara State and it was recommended that the government should provide free access to healthcare services which impact on adherence to ophthalmia neonatorum preventive measure....
