This has been attributed to a lack of awareness and poor knowledge and attitude especially about medication as most major contributing factors. The outcome of glaucoma management, however, depends largely on the understanding, attitude and perception of the illness treatment by the patients. Early detection, effective treatment and strict compliance with the treatment of glaucoma are instrumental to prevent further damage to the optic nerve and thus preserve vision. This study tends to investigate the knowledge and attitude of Glaucoma patients attending eye clinics towards the use of medication at the University of Ilorin, Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara state. The study adopted a cross-sectional study involving all previously diagnosed glaucoma patients attending the eye complex of the University of Ilorin, Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara state. The population comprises all glaucoma patients attending the eye complex of the University of Ilorin, Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara state. Using Taro Yamane formula,(50) glaucoma patients were sampled for the study. A researcher structured questionnaire which was validated by the research supervisor was adopted. The instrument was administered by the researcher and research assistants.
