Abstract
The study investigated the assessment level of risk factors for rejection in renal transplant among healthcare workers in Naval Medical Centre Idah, Kogi State. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the knowledge of healthcare workers on the risk factors of transplant rejection, to find out patients that will be at risk of renal transplant rejection, to determine factors that may reduce risk of transplant rejection, to find out if healthcare worker’s expertise will influence renal transplant rejection. A total of 103 questionnaires were distributed among healthcare workers at the Naval Medical Centre Idah, Kogi State, using random sampling technique to collect the data needed for the study. The data collected was analyzed using Statistical package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and were presented using frequency table, pie chart and bar chart. Furthermore, the measures that may reduce the risk of transplant rejection based on the result of the analysis are proper adherence to immunosuppressive medication, regular follow up visits and monitoring after transplantation, maintaining a healthy lifestyle (e.g. balanced diet, exercise) and prompt reporting of any signs of infection or complications. Finally, the specialty of the healthcare workers and their good level of knowledge, It can easily be concluded that their expertise influence renal transplant rejection. It was concluded that the healthcare workers have a good level of knowledge on the risk factors for rejection in renal transplant rejection and their specialty influenced renal transplant rejection....
