Abstract
Anemia is a condition that causes a decrease in erythrocyte (red blood cells) concentration in circulation or hemoglobin in the blood and a concomitant impairment of oxygen transportation to vital organs in the body. The study assessed the determining knowledge of mothers towards the causes and effects of anaemia in children aged 5-10 years in General Hospital Ilorin, Kwara State, four research objectives was developed for the study including to causes of anemia in school aged children (5-10) at the General hospital Ilorin, to determine effects of anemia in school aged children (5-10) at the General hospital Ilorin and to assess the prevalence anemia among school-age children at the General hospital Ilorin with research questions and research hypotheses. Meanwhile, literatures from previous studies on anaemia were consulted using journals and books. A total of 50 questionnaires were distributed among mothers attending General Hospital Ilorin, Kwara State, Kwara State using random sampling technique to collect the data needed for the study. The study revealed that the majority of the participants at 100% agreed that they knew what anaemia is, this indicated good knowledge of anaemia among the mothers. It further revealed that 76% of the respondents indicated that the cause of anaemia is decreased iron intake. It was recommended that the government should ensure that there is adequate education for the public on the causes and prevention of anaemia in school aged children and the nurses should always support the mothers' adequate information on the causes and prevention of anaemia in school aged children....
