Abstract
Infection prevention is the scientific approach and practical solution designed to prevent harm caused by infection to patients and health workers. It is a subset of epidemiology but also serves an essential function in infectious diseases, social sciences and global health. The purpose of this study was to assess the knowledge and practice of infection prevention in paediatric wards among health workers in general hospital Idah. The aim of this study is to assess the level of knowledge and practice of infection prevention among health workers in General Hospital, Idah. A descriptive study was conducted and the sample size of a total of 43 respondents in General Hospital Idah. Data was obtained using a self-structured questionnaire for the respondents. Data was presented in the form of tables, pie charts, histograms and bar charts. Analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics and hypotheses were tested using the chi-square test tool. Findings of this study show that 67.2% have high knowledge of infection prevention and 36.7% have moderate knowledge of infection prevention and 67.4% have good practice of infection prevention, 18.6% have fair practice of infection prevention and 14% have bad practice of infection prevention. Hypothesis 1 (p- value 0.398) so there is no significant relationship between the knowledge of respondents on infection prevention and its practice among health workers and hypothesis 2 (p- value  0.969) there is no significant relationship between the years of experience of health workers and the practice of infection prevention. In conclusion, It is therefore recommended that health workers should stay updated on the best infection prevention and practice as new infection prevention guidelines are been released so they can always give the best health care services....
