Abstract
Febrile seizures (FS), which is a common neurologic disorder in children aged 6–60 months, are convulsions that happen due to fever without any intracranial infection. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of febrile seizures as seen in the emergency paediatric unit of the University of Delta Teaching Hospital from January 2017-December 2022. The instrument for data collection was checklist. A retrospective descriptive design was used and simple percentages and findings were represented using frequency, bar chart, pie chart and chi-square to test the hypothesis. A total of 146 cases were seen. The findings from the year 2017-2022 reviewed revealed that age range 1year-5years had the highest incidence with 86.3% of total cases, the male gender the highest incidence with 67.8% of the total cases the highest incidence with 86.3% of the total cases, on religion distribution, it was revealed that Muslims has the highest incidence with 72.6% of the total cases, and the socioeconomic status revealed that employed the highest incidence with 54.8% of the total cases, while survival rate has a significant influence on the incidence of febrile seizure in children as alive cases the highest incidence with 100% of total cases. This study recommends that Mothers attending clinics should be health educated on the various causes of febrile seizure, and risk factors among children, and public education about preventive measures in children should be done to the mother. Also, the government should ensure health facilities should be made available accessible and affordable to people wherever they live and work to make them gain access to health care, likewise, the community leader should be involved in health education programs on febrile seizures....
