Abstract
Cesarean section (CS) is the operation for delivering a baby through incisions made in the mother's abdominal wall and uterus. It is one of the most performed major surgeries in obstetric practice intended to save the lives of the mother and child, significantly reducing maternal and perinatal mortality. The broad objective of this study is to assess the perception and attitude of pregnant women towards acceptance of cesarean section delivery as a preventive strategy of perinatal asphyxia in UNIDELTH Agbor. A descriptive design which was adopted with the use of questionnaires and quantitative data was collected from mothers attending antenatal clinics in the University of Delta teaching hospitals (UNIDELTH). This study is carried out in University of Delta Teaching Hospital, Agbor, nursing mothers who attend the children welfare clinic at the University of Delta Teaching Hospital, Agbor, Delta State, Nigeria. University of Agbor Teaching Hospital belongs to the second (2nd) generation of teaching hospitals in the country. The target population is pregnant women who attend antenatal clinics at the University of Delta Teaching Hospital, Agbor. A systematic sampling technique was used in selecting the pregnant women who attend the antenatal clinic in UNIDELTH and are willing to participate in the study. And 140 respondents were selected using the Taro Yamani formula. The instrument for data collection was a well-structured questionnaire to extract information on the perception and attitude of pregnant women toward acceptance of caesarian section. delivery as a preventive strategy of perinatal asphyxi Data was analysed using SPSS version 25. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that the pregnant women attending the University of Delta Teaching Hospital, Agbor, Delta State have diverse perceptions and attitudes towards acceptance of cesarean section as a method of delivery....
