Abstract
Oral rehydration therapy is a simple treatment that can be prepared and used at home to prevent mortality due to dehydration and undernutrition in children with diarrhoea. This research study was a descriptive survey carried out to assess the knowledge and acceptance of oral rehydration therapy for the treatment of diarrhoea among nursing Mothers in UNIDELTH, Agbor. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge of oral rehydration therapy for the treatment of diarrhoea among nursing mothers, to assess the level of acceptance of nursing mothers on the use of ORT in the treatment of diarrhoea among nursing mothers, and to determine the factors influencing their knowledge and acceptance of ORT for treatment of diarrhoea among nursing mothers. 80 respondents were used for the research. The information from the research was manually analyzed and presented using frequency tables and bar charts. Hypotheses were tested using chi-square at 0.05 level of significance. The analysis revealed that most of the mothers were knowledgeable and accepted oral rehydration therapy for diarrhoea  68(86%) agreed that they know what diarrhoea is, and 11(14%) do not know what diarrhoea is. Majority of the participants 65(82%) agreed that they would be willing to use ORT as a treatment for diarrhoea in their children in the future, and 14(18%) disagreed.. there was no significant relationship between knowledge of nursing mothers and the use of ORT for treatment of diarrhoea, and also, there was no significant relationship between acceptance of the use of ORT and treatment of Diarrhoea among nursing mothers in UNIDELTH Agbor, Delta state. It was recommended that nursing mothers should adhere to instructions on ORT usage and that nurses should maintain a good relationship with nursing mothers to health educate them on the proper use of ORT for treating diarrhoea....
