Abstract
This research work was conducted on the attitude and practices of healthcare workers in the implementation of IMNCI in reducing mortality and morbidity in selected PHCS in Idah. It informed the health officers on the understanding of health workers regarding implementation. Among the objectives was to assess the attitude of health workers to the implementation of the IMNCI strategy and to determine factors affecting the implementation of IMNCI by health professionals in selected PHCs. Furthermore, to assess the impact of health workers’ knowledge of IMNCI on the practice of its strategy, to determine factors affecting the implementation of IMNCI by health professionals, and to assess the impacts of health workers’ knowledge on the practice of IMNCI. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work. This research uses descriptive survey to sample health workers working in selected PHCs in the study area. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 45 questionnaires were distributed out of which 45 were also retrieved. The findings revealed a majority of the respondents 96% agreed that they have undergone training on IMNCI when information on IMNCI is an integrated approach to child health that focuses on the well-being of the whole child. In conclusion, the study revealed that the respondents in the selected PHCs have good knowledge and positive attitudes towards the implementation of IMNCI in the study area., recommendations were made that health workers should maintain a good attitude towards implementation of IMNCI in the healthcare setting, more healthcare workers should be employed to meet the workload in the health center to enable the workers to adequately follow the IMCI guidelines as recommended and health organization should continue to organize refresher courses and trainings for health workers to increase their knowledge of IMNCI....
