Abstract
This study aims to ascertain the misconceptions of physics amongst Senior Secondary Schools in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Four research questions were used as a guide. This study adopted a descriptive survey design, which was carried out in Jema’a Local Government Area. The population of the study was students and teachers within the area of study. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The interpretation of the data was based on a real limit number of mean scores. Based on the data analyzed the following major findings were made. For students’ understanding of basic concepts in Physics, attention should be focused on enhancing the students’ understanding by providing adequate competent teachers and environmental factors since students' cultural background is an important variable in achievement. Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) of the state should endeavor to provide opportunities for refresher courses for Physics teachers for they to be better informed about how to improve the academic performance of their students in the subject for the technological advancement of the nation. The Ministry of Education ditto the School Principals should ensure adequate and effective supervision of the teaching of Physics in Secondary Schools in Kaduna State. Government should also provide modern science laboratory equipment to schools and information communication technology centres to all the schools. As it is often recognized in policy documents, performance in school-based assessment should be integrated into the grading and assessment framework of external extermination. ...
