Factors that affects student nurses choice to work abroad after school in School of Nursing (NAUTH) and Department of Nursing, Okofia

Abstract
Nurses’ emigration to Western countries after school is a serious problem faced by the Nigerian health sector. The study determined the factors that affect the student nurse's choice to work abroad after school in the School of Nursing NAUTH and Department of Nursing Science Okofia campus. The sample size used for the study was 101 student nurses who were in their final year, using Taro Yamen method. Questionnaire was the only instrument for data collection and descriptive research design was used in which a self-administered questionnaire was filled and returned by 101 respondents. The data was analyzed and presented using tables. The findings from the study show that 100% of the students have heard about working abroad after school. 0% has not heard. Majority of the respondents stated factors that affect student nurses' choice to work abroad to be higher pay (100%), better working conditions (100%), Quality Health Insurance (86%). Lack of respect and value towards nurses (97%). Majority also started the measure to enhance their choice to work abroad to be increased salary (100%), value and respect towards nurses (800%), Quality Health Insurance (90%), and a good working environment (100%). Only 3% wouldn't want to work abroad after school. Recommendations were made by the researcher that should include conducting seminars by the school in other to convince the students, government full-time investment in the health sector, incentives and increased salaries.
