Railway transportation is globally seen as an environmentally friendly mode of mass transit system. Hence, many countries have continued to take steps to enhance the efficiency of their rail transportation industry. These results imply that poor management is one of the principal factors that affected the performance of the railway industry in the country in the period under review. The study concluded that for Nigeria to enhance the performance of railway transportation and maximize the benefits thereof, the issue of poor management must be addressed in this vital sub-sector of the transportation industry. At the end of this project a number of recommendations for efficient operations of railway service in Nigeria.
