Abstract
Cement, lime, and bitumen are common additives for road construction nowadays, but they are highly expensive. In order to achieve standard engineering criteria, subgrade strength and durability must be treated. The objectives of this project are to use sugarcane peel to stabilize soft soil. The soil samples were taken behind the Batagarawa Secretariat in three different trial pits with depths ranging from 1.5m to 2m. The collected samples were sundried and sieved to remove larger particles larger than 75mm. Various laboratory tests were performed on the soil samples. Atterberg limit test, sieves analysis test, specific gravity test, compaction test, and CBR test were all performed. The sugar cane peel was collected from Katsina''''s central market and burned open air before being sieved through a 0.425mm sieve to obtain fine ashes. The soft soil was fully mixed with 0%, 3%, 6%, and 9% sugar cane peel by dry weight of the soil sample to determine the maximum dry density (MDD), optimum moisture content (OMC), and California bearing ratio (CBR) of the sample with sugar cane peel. It was revealed that combining sugar cane peel with soft soil enhanced the engineering properties of the soil by lowering the (MDD) and increasing the CBR value from 6.5% to 7.25% at 3%, indicating that the best value for stabilization using sugar cane peel is 3%. According to the findings, sugar cane peel can be used to stabilize subgrade soil....
