Abstract
This study was carried out to examine the impact of democracy on Nigeria's Political Development, a study of Takum L.G.A. The study adopted a survey research design where a primary method of data collection was used, in which a sample of 500 closed-ended questionnaires were prepared based on the research questions and administered to the respondents in the study area.  However, for the purpose of analysis, the study uses a 5-Point Likert Scale Rating in the form of tables to analyze respondent information. Based on the findings, the study concludes that democracy has had a significant impact on political development in Takum L.G.A, reflecting broader trends in Nigeria. The transition to democracy has led to increased political participation and representation, empowering citizens to have a voice in governance. However, the effectiveness of democratic governance in promoting development has been limited by persistent issues such as corruption, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient accountability. However, in line with the conclusion, this study recommends that there is a need to strengthen democratic institutions at the local level to ensure they are more effective in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance. This includes enhancing the capacity of local governments to deliver services and respond to the needs of the people. Anti-corruption measures should be reinforced, with stricter enforcement of laws and greater accountability for public officials. Political education should be promoted to increase citizens’ awareness of their rights and responsibilities in a democracy. This will empower them to participate more effectively in the political process and hold their leaders accountable....
