The study has four objectives: to assess current preservation and conservation practices, identify challenges faced by library staff, evaluate staff awareness of best practices, and propose recommendations for improvement. A descriptive survey research design was employed, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. The population comprised 50 library staff and 5,000 library users, with a sample size of 364 respondents determined using the Krejcie and manifestations. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select respondents. Data were collected using a structured Likert-scale questionnaire titled Questionnaire on the Preservation and Conservation of Library Documents at Bayero University Library and supplemented by interviews with selected staff. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations), while qualitative data from interviews were analyzed thematically. The findings revealed that Bayero University Library employs moderately effective preservation methods, but inconsistencies in application, limited funding, inadequate training, and insufficient equipment hinder effectiveness. Staff awareness of best practices is moderate, with gaps in continuous training. Key recommendations include increasing funding for preservation equipment, organizing regular staff training, upgrading storage facilities, integrating digital preservation, and adopting modern conservation techniques. The study underscores the need for enhanced preservation strategies to ensure the longevity and accessibility of library collections, contributing to sustainable academic resource management in Nigerian universities....Preview Download Preview +Other Library and Information Science project topics and materials you might be interested in»Staff Motivation in Academic Libraries»The effect of social media on reading culture among students»Effects of poor implementation of collection development policy in academic libraries»Annotated bibliography on information and communication technology»Library catalogue utilization among students in academic libraries - a case study of Federal Polytechnic Idah library»Product marketing: a strategic step for libraries in the information age (a case study of Imo state library board, Owerri)»Awareness and utilization of electronic information resources by library and information science students (a case study of Nnamdi Azikiwe university, Awka) »Information needs and information seeking behaviour of children in public libraries - a case study of Kwara State library board, Ilorin»Information needs and seeking behaviour of senior non-academic staff of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri»Challenges of ICT applications in law libraries»The availability and utilization of modern information resources in teaching and learning in selected private secondary schools in Owerri metropolis»A study of the information needs of rural health workers in Ebikoro, Owerri north LGA of Imo state»Challenges of the management of staff appraisal programme in the library of Imo state (a case study of Imo state university)»Annotated bibliography on English language»Effects of library on the academic performances of students in tertiary institutions
