Abstract
This research project was carried out to ascertain career choice in Office Technology and Management as perceived by OTM graduates, using the Federal Polytechnic ______as a case study. In the course of the study, related literatures were reviewed. A total of 47 copies of questionnaire was drawn up and administered in selected firms in Federal Polytechnic ______and the information gathered was analyzed. The data emphasized that the office manager, ICT skills, administrator, office skills are available core area career choices for OTM graduate and sales manager, financial analysis, market research, loan officer and public relationship are available non-core area career choices for OTM graduates. To successfully carry out the research work, two (2) research questions were formulated and a structured questionnaire with designed five (5) point Likert scale was used to collect data. The survey design was adopted and the population was made up of forty-seven (47) respondents with no sample used. The arithmetic mean is used as the statistical tool for data analysis. Based on the findings and discussion, recommendations were made as follows the institution should include new courses into the school curriculum so as to impact better knowledge and skills for students. It is good to have a place of reading like a library, students centers, Government and education authorities should work seriously on the type of socialization that undergraduates are exposed to because it could be expected that similar set of factors that influence the career life of individuals would influence their general life pattern. Hence, negative socialization should be avoided and discouraged and undergraduates offering both programmes could develop themselves along the path of their career which could make them economically buoyant because economic factors came as a third influence ...
