Knowledge and practice of self breast examination among women of reproductive age in college of agriculture, Taraba state, Jalingo, Nigeria

Abstract
The survey research design (descriptive survey) was used to randomly select 196 female students of the College of Agriculture Jalingo as respondents for this research. Data collected from these respondents through questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics. It was revealed that 91(46.43%) of the respondents were age between 21-25 years, 48(24.49%) were 15-20 years and 26-30 and  9(4.59%) were 31-35 years. 94(52.04%) of the students were single, while 94(47.96%) were married. 189(96.43%). 125(63.78%) who agreed that self-breast examination is the assessment made on the breast by an individual to check for breast lumps. In general, it was revealed that the majority of the respondents were aware and have full knowledge of self-breast examination and also carry out the practice of self-breast examination, it, however, discovered that the practice of self-breast examination is constrained by factors such as peer group, cultural and religious believes, level of education, age and lack of proper information from health workers. It was further concluded b the research that self-breast examination is practiced by students of the College of Agriculture Jalingo and that the practice of self-breast examination is constrained by age, level of education, cultural and religious beliefs, lack of information, peer group pressure, negligence and family background. It is also concluded that practice, knowledge of self-breast examination and age of the person have a significant impact on the detection and prevention of cancer. ...
