Abstract
This research work was conducted to assess the perception of parents on the effects of sibling rivalry on children in Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State. It informed the health officers on the understanding of parents regarding the effects of sibling rivalry. Among the objectives was to assess the perception of parents on the effects of sibling rivalry and to determine if the age of parents has an effect on the perception of parents on the effects of sibling rivalry. Furthermore, to ascertain whether the number of children can affect the perception of parents on the effects of sibling rivalry. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work. This research uses descriptive survey to sample parents in the study area. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 100 questionnaires were distributed out of which 100 were also retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that it is also imperative the health worker to attend seminars and workshops to be well equipped on the causes, effects and management of sibling rivalry for sound nursing care, parents should avail themselves of the opportunities in attending programmes organized by the government or in health centers that would enhance their knowledge on the effects of sibling rivalry and ways to manage them. And they should also pay close attention to each child as all deserve their love, care and attention and avoid favouritism. ...
