Abstract
This research work was conducted to assess knowledge on the causes, consequences, and prevention of drug abuse among students of Ado Grammar School Ado Local Government Area, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. It informed the health officers on the understanding of students regarding drug abuse among secondary students. Among the objectives was to assess the causes of drug abuse among the students in Ado Grammar School Ado Local Government Area, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State and to find out the consequences of drug abuse among students of Ado Grammar School Ado Local Government Area, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. Furthermore, to determine the preventive measures for drug abuse among students of Ado Grammar School Ado Local Government Area, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work as related to drug abuse in secondary schools. This research use descriptive survey to sample students aged 12-26 years in two classes of SS 1 and SS 2 in the study area. While Taro Yamane formula was used to determine the sample size. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 200 questionnaires were distributed out of which 200 were also retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that the school authority should provide law and regulations that would address the substance abuse among the students, the government should monitor the sale of substances capable of being misused by the students especially local stores across the communities in Ado local government and community and religious leaders should be up to their task by instilling moral and uprightness to youths in their wards about the dangers and consequence of drug and drugs abuse.
