Abstract
Social Media's unchecked growth as an information dissemination tool risks undermining health information management practice standards. This study examined 173 health information managers across three hospitals, using a sample size of 121 determined via Yamane Taro’s formula. It assessed social media utilization and quality assurance in health information practices through a survey questionnaire based on three research questions.  The results found that 92.56% of managers agree social media enlightens health information management practice knowledge by enhancing information sharing and collaboration (66.12%), improving healthcare outcomes (57.85%), enabling research and education (66.12%) and improving patient communication (41.32%). However, the lack of social media guidelines (66.12%) and usage during work hours (61.9%) challenge quality assurance. Proposed solutions were peer reviews, patient feedback tools, social media policies and fact-checking. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between usage and assurance, with a calculated chi-square value of 18.22 against a tabulated value of 3.84. Key recommendations are establishing guidelines and policies on professional social media utilization alongside implementing regular staff training sessions on quality assurance best practices for social media. This balanced approach allows for harnessing social media’s knowledge sharing power while upholding stringent health information management practice standards across virtual platforms. Managed properly, social media can become an accurate, secure and ethical tool for modern health information management....
