However, students often encounter challenges that negatively impact learning. This study investigated challenges met by nursing students during clinicals at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria. Methods: A questionnaire elicited data on 215 nursing students’ clinical learning attitudes, challenges, and improvement strategies. Descriptive statistics analyzed results. Results: Majority (90.5%) felt classroom and clinical learning aligned. Top challenges were insufficient supplies/equipment (74.9%), heavy workload (79.8%), and uncomfortable nurse manager attitudes (25%). Recommended strategies included building staff-student interpersonal relationships (92.1%), encouraging student cooperation (86.9%), and providing continuous student feedback (93.7%). Conclusion: Students met multifaceted challenges during clinical placements, highlighting need for supportive learning environments where they receive staff guidance. Collaboration between students, nurses, and management can better integrate theory and practice.
