Abstract
This study aimed to determine the effect of Nigella Sativa aqueous extract on lipid profile which was evaluated by total cholesterol, low density, lipoproteins, high density lipoprotein, triglycerides and very low density lipoprotein. In this study, twenty (20) male albino rats were randomly divided into four groups (5 each). The control group were fed orally with black seed aqueous extract dose at 0.1mg/kg, 0.2mg/kg and 0.25mg/kg body weight, which were considered as group 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. At the end of fourteen(14) days, the rats were sacrificed and their blood samples were collected through cardiac puncture. Statistical analysis were done through one-way ANOVA using SPss. The result revealed that there was no significant difference (p0.05) in total cholesterol, triglycerides and very low density lipoprotein levels in the treated groups when compared to the control group. There was a significant reduction (p0.05) in the levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides and low density lipoproteins in group four (4) animals when compared to the control. Also there is a significant increase in the levels of HDL and VLDL in group four (4) when compared to the control group. This result suggests that black seed Nigella Sativa has a favourable effect in lipid profile and seemed potential target for the treatment of hyperlipidemic condition.  ...
