Abstract
This research work was undertaken to assess the role of rural institutions in rural development. The researcher set out to achieve the following objectives: to find out the impact of rural institutions in rural development. The main source of data for the primary source came from the preliminary interview with the rural institutions. This is from the administration of the questionnaires given to the selected/registered institutions. Oral interview instruments of the divisional rural institution in Umuahia were also used. A total number of twenty (20) questionnaires were administered to the selected rural institutions in Umuahia the questionnaires were distributed to the cooperators and officials in the selected cooperative institutions. Based on the data analysis and the results from oral interview conducted, the following decision was made: - This institution enlightens rural dweller in Umudike in Umuahia are likely to be effective and active in achieving the aim of increasing. The following recommendations were also suggested. The financial base of cooperative societies in the local government should be improved through: (a) Government approved loans (b) Soft loan from cooperative bank ...
