Abstract
The evaluation of the antimicrobial activity of the extract crude of underground stem of Opete (Costus Afer) was carried out using, Salmonella spp., Protuse, Streptococcus spp. and Escherichia coli which were gotten from faeces, urinary tract infection, sand respectively. Crude extract was not sensitive in all the test microorganisms while concentrated extracts were sensitive only in Streptococcus and Escherichia coli. In this study of antimicrobial property of extract of underground stem of Opete (Costus afer), it has been observed that extract from Opete has antimicrobial properties. Concentrated extract of the above named plant was able to kill the growth of the Streptococcus and E.coli used for the experiment while the crude extract could not. Hence, it is recommended that the result obtained is highly antimicrobial....
