Abstract
This project is written to find the problems and prospects of using information and communication technology for record-keeping tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The use of questionnaires were employed as the major source in which information was gathered. The use of percentage as the technique and the interpreting and analyzing of information were applied. The primary information gives the background concept of the subject matter. The design of the study was survey research design. The samples of the study consisted of 100 respondents. The major findings of the study include: that electrical instability is a major setback in record keeping using ICT, record keeping using ICT makes learner and tutor to be lazy in academic pursuits, with ICT, geographical location is not a barrier to record keeping, and record-keeping using ICT helps to improve educational attainment and raise the standard of education. It was finally recommended that: Management and full utilization of the facilities should be properly done. The users should have enough time. Through proper planning, organizing, directing and controlling of the IT facilities so that the best could be made of the facilities. Restricted access to the facilities will not lead to the attainment of the desired objectives, but at the same time, measures should be put in place to ensure that the facilities are not abused. Well-trained and skilled personnel are essential ingredients for implementing ICT in the library. Steps should be taken to develop properly train competent people for this purpose. A comprehensive collection development policy for e-resources should be maintained by the tertiary institutions, in order to follow a set of standard practices for the acquisition and management of electronic information resources. There should be a specific budget for new resources and the renewal of existing resources....
