Abstract
The research work tried to explain how mass media through social function bring about development in the community. This work analyzed how the media through its persuasion, influences people’s opinion and channel their attention towards the development of its community, by emphasizing the need for development. The relevant literature was reviewed stating the opinion of different authors on the need for communication between the people and government, which will enhance political, economic and educational development among others.  The research method adopted in this work was survey and considering the large number of towns in Orumba, fifteen towns were selected out of these and the instruments adopted were questionnaires and oral interviews. Data presentation and analysis were also discussed in this work, 19.23% of the population had the view that the media are ineffective in realizing community development. 46.5% of others have the view that for community development to effective, that both the government and the people need to assist the media towards this. Finally the summary and recommendation made since it has been realized from the research adopted that media efforts towards Orumba South development is still below expectation due to objectivity and bias. Is therefore recommended that the media should improve by making its coverage mobile. This will enable them to cover the essential areas in community development. The community on the other hand should always inform the media on any developmental issues. This cooperation between the media and the community will help the community in its development.   ...
