The objective of the study was to determine the impact of health insurance on employee retention and to identify the type and form of employee motivation that has a greater influence on staff in the Hotel business. The study was carried out in Ikorodu, Lagos State. Nigeria. The sampling technique used for this study was Non-probability Sampling, purposive selection of staff of hotels in Ikorodu, Lagos State due to easy access and the type of organizational structure they run. 50 structured questionnaires were sent to the organization out of which 47 were returned. The findings of this study have some implications for the hotel industry, particularly the top management who usually formulate policies and also the middle managers who implement them. The result shows that except for gender, the other demographic factors such as age, race and education do not significantly influence employees’ perception towards motivation. The study also shows that health insurance was not viewed by the employee under study as a form of motivation.
