Abstract
This project work examined the impacts of storage and maintenance of health records on patients’ healthcare outcome at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin Kwara State. It also informed the health officers on the importance of proper health information management practice in the hospital. Among the objectives is to identify the type of methods used in keeping patients’ records in University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, to establish the relationship between health records keeping and service delivery, to find out the challenges faced by UITH health records personnel in records keeping and service delivery. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work. This research uses descriptive survey to sample 128 staff of Health Information Management of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin Kwara State. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 128 questionnaires were distributed out of which 128 were also retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made Health care organizations need to take a more aggressive approach to improve the health records maintenance with utmost proper storage of health information systems in order to give out best service delivery, adequate protection of health care information depends on both technical and organizational practices, government and individual should try to get enough facilities for storage and maintenance of health records and health information staff should respect how long you must retain medical records before it could be discarded record treatment policy..
