Abstract
The knowledge of nurses towards the effect of diarrhea on the kidney is a key to the treatment of the disease. Hence, this project work examined the knowledge and attitude of student nurses in School of Nursing, Emekiku-Owerri, Imo State toward the effect of diarrhea on the kidney. Among the objectives is to assess the level of knowledge of student nurses toward diarrhoea, to find out the causes of diarrhea, to identify the factors influencing the practice that lead to diarrhoea and to determine the effect of diarrhoea on the kidney. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work. This research use descriptive survey to sample 10000 school students of the study area. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 50 questionnaires were distributed out of which 50 were retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that Nurses should health educate patients on the importance of reporting any onset of diarrhoea early to the hospital, Nurses should endeavor to teach the patients procedures that prevent diarrhoea and its effects on the kidneys and watch them practicalize it and Nurses should endeavor to widen their scope of knowledge in areas of diarrhoea prevention amongst others.
