Abstract
This study undertook the roles of traditional institutions in nation building. The researcher also exposits the measures by which traditional institutions can be encouraged to ensure effective leadership in the community of which after the independence, Nigeria leaders were faced with the challenges of ensuring an economic, political and social-culturally strong, united and indivisible Nigeria. This task would not be left for the elected state leaders alone hence the need for the traditional rulers to play a significant role in the accomplishment of this task from the secondary data collected. Chapter two of the research work revealed some important part played by the traditional institution in the national development of which research design was adapted with a sample size of 20, the sample random sampling was used to determine the sample size. The questionnaire was the main instrument used for data collection and was subjected to simply validity and reliability test the analysis of the data as based on simple percentage and chi-square (x2) technique which was used to test the level of significance. Some of the findings were that the traditional institution can help in nation building. The researcher, from his own point of view suggested that the government should encourage the traditional rulers to ensure a positive result in their duties.   ...
