It is important to note that it is practically impossible to produce a building that is maintenance-free. Therefore the importance of building maintenance cannot be over-emphasized. A great number of public and private buildings do not give optimum comfort to users as a result of a lack of maintenance culture. This project looked into the general maintenance attitude of Nigerians (Owerri) towards public and private buildings and also the causes and remedies to the problems of public and private building maintenance. Reconnaissance surveys and interviews were also employed. Data collected were statistically analyzed with the use of frequency distribution, percentage and the use of the student’s distribution which was also employed. The purpose of carrying out the research work on this topic is to demystify every existing doubt as to the practicability of quality maintenance management of public and private buildings, result obtained revealed the major factors responsible for maintenance of the building in the two buildings. Also revealed is that private building was better managed and maintained than public buildings.
