Abstract
This research study is designed to show or/and evaluate how cooperative societies can be used to alleviate poverty in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State. In Orlu L.G.A. of Imo State, there are many co-operative societies but for the benefit of this study, some societies were selected. Two sources of data namely primary and secondary data were used. Questionnaire was also used as a research instrument to supplement information. The following was discovered that Insufficient capital, Low per capita income, Corrupt officials, and Poor economics of scale were the factors that hinder the growth and development of our country. On the basis of the above findings, it was recommended that education, training and information, operational efficiency, effective leadership and cooperative financing would help to eradicate poverty in Orlu L. G. A. in particular and Nigeria at large....
