Abstract
This study focused on human relations skills secretaries required for effective job performance in industries. In the course of the study, related works of literature were reviewed. A total of 33 copies of questionnaires were drawn up and administered in selected firms in ------------ and the information gathered were analyzed. It was realized that to be sufficient on-the-job, the secretary must possess or be acquainted with some personal qualities/characteristics that will make her quite unique in the office. The data emphasized that the secretary must possess such technical skills as public relations skills, machine operation skills, shorthand and typewriting skills in order to meet up with the trend of the business world. Moreover, it was found that both the bosses and secretaries perceived human relations skills as very important. To successfully carry out the research work, three (3) research questions were formulated and structured questionnaires with designed five (5) point Likert scales were used to collect data. The survey design was adopted and the population was made up of thirty-three (33) respondents with no sample used. The arithmetic mean is used as statistical tool for data analysis. Based on the findings and discussion, recommendations were made as follows the administrator should endeavor to afford their secretaries interpersonal Human Relations skills opportunities through which they could be retrained in emergent innovations and techniques in the world of work, The administrators in those pubic establishments should endeavor to properly organize and coordinate the policy (interpersonal Human Relations skills) as to create enabling environment for secretaries to update their knowledge and skills in this dispensation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). ...
