Abstract
The study examined the Reaction of Health Records Professionals towards migrating to electronic health records systems in the University of Medical Science Teaching Hospitals Akure, Ondo State. Four specific objectives were examined which are to identify the importance of electronic health records in an outpatient clinic as perceived by the health record personnel, Assess the effectiveness of electronic health records on the service rendered to outpatients as perceived by the health record personnel, Examine the acceptance of electronic health records by health records personnel and Examine the factor militating against Electronic Health Records as perceived by the health record personnel in UNIMEDTH. A total of103 health information management staff's participated in the study which was selected using simple random sampling. 103 questionnaires were administered and 92 questionnaires were retrieved back for analysis indicating 95% response rates. Descriptive research design was adopted for this study. Findings showed that Majority,(75.0%) strongly agreed that, the acceptability of electronic health records will provide material for researchers, followed by (72.8%) who strongly agreed that, the acceptability of electronic health records will enable health professionals to review previous care events, (51.1%) strongly agreed that, the acceptability of electronic health records will ensure that data are secure from loss, alteration or damage, while (39.1%) strongly agreed that, the acceptability of electronic health record will act as a source of information. Conclusively, employment of more health personnel particularly health information officers that are computer literate will develop quality care rendering for the patient in the hospital. ...
