Abstract
This research work is an evaluation of the impact of electronic payment systems in the public sector using Corporate Affairs Commission, Lokoja as the study area. The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of the implementation of e-payment system in Nigeria public sector  and to examine whether e-payment system can helps  in preventing and controlling fraud in public  sector. A descriptive survey research design was adopted in the study. The methods of data collection were the primary and secondary methods of data collection. The primary data was collected using questionnaire. The researcher analyzed the data collected based on the response from the questionnaire distributed.  From the population of 120 a sample size of 92 was choosing using Taro Yamane formula. Frequency counts, percentages and chi-square were used to analyze the research questions from which the following findings were drawn. The findings revealed that e-payment system helps in preventing and controlling fraud in public sector and it reduces cases of corruption and it increases the overall efficiency in public sector. On the basis of the above findings it was recommended that among others that government should ensure that accountants in charge of salary payment adhere strictly to electronic means of transferring employee’s salaries and stop henceforth the use of manual payment. At the same time government should institute regulatory framework and policies that will further deepen the e-payment system through appropriate regulation. ...
