Abstract
This research work focuses on the influence of staff motivation on-duty performance of secondary school teachers in Katsina-Ala local government area, Benue state. The research work attempt to relate irregular payment of salaries and job security on the duty performance of secondary school teachers in Katsina-Ala local government Area of Benue state. The research work also attempted to establish a relationship between the promotion of teachers and training/re-training of teachers and their general duty performance Methodically, the research work adopted descriptive survey design for field investigation and questionnaires were used for data collection. The data collected were analyzed using simple percentage and t-test. Two hundred respondents were used as the sample size. Findings were that staff motivation has a positive significant relationship with teachers’ instructional performance and that when teachers are motivated adequately they display a high sense of commitment in even disciplining and controlling learners than when not motivated. The researcher further recommends that government at all levels should ensure that, teachers are adequately and promptly paid for optimal productivity. The working environment of teachers should be made relatively comfortable and habitable to boost teachers’ self-esteem. Government at all levels must put a programme in place to always sponsor teachers to workshops, conferences, seminars and other forms of teacher re-training so as to upgrade their knowledge and professional skills. ...
