Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine The Impact of Teachers’ Motivation on Pupils Academic Performance: A case study of some selected Primary Schools in Doma Local Government Area. A descriptive research design that incorporated quantitative and qualitative approaches was adopted. A survey was carried out with 105 respondents including teachers and head teachers in public secondary schools in Doma. In addition, in-depth interviews were carried out with head teachers. The study revealed that the motivation for persons to join the teaching profession was job security and the absence of job alternatives but the salary was a low consideration. Furthermore, although not all extrinsic motivation factors (such as free meals, regular salary payments and weekly allowances) were available to teachers, most teachers were concerned more about the inadequacy of current salary levels to meet their basic needs. The study recommends an immediate increase in the salary of primary school teachers to match increases in the cost of living. ...
