Abstract
The research was carried out to determine the biosynthesis of bark peel of aerial yam-magnesium oxide nanocomposites for biosensing applications. Bark peel of aerial yam (Discorea bulbifera) was collected from markets within Makurdi Metropolis. Extraction of back peel of aerial yam extract was done using methanol extraction method. Phytochemical screening was carried out on the extract to evaluate the presence of essential phytochemicals in the extract. The extract was also subjected to UV analysis and FTIR analysis using UV-visible spectroscopy and FTIR Fourier transformed infra-red respectively to determine the presence of magnesium oxide and functional groups in the extract. The results showed that phytochemicals such as saponin, phenolic compounds and alkaloids were present in the abstract. The experiment also confirms the presence of N-H, O-H, C-H and CC functional groups in the extract. it was recommended that the aerial yam peel can be used as good source of functional group and can be used as a source of medicinal products since it contains phytochemical like phenolic compounds, alkaloids and saponins, it is also recommended that more research should be carried out to determine the application of this functional grouped and phytochemicals in the different areas of human endeavors ...
