The study adopted a survey research design. The objective of the research were to; identify wildlife species and their abundance, determine the level of diversity and abundance of wildlife species and the interaction between wildlife species and humans and identify the factors affecting the diversity and abundance of wildlife species in the study area. Selection of respondents for the research was done using random sampling techniques where 120 residents were selected using random selection techniques. Data was collected from primary source enumeration by administration of research questionnaire. A four-point rating scale was used in which respondents had to state whether they: Highly sighted= 3.26-4.00; Moderately sighted= 2.51– 3.25; Scarcely Sighted= 1.76– 2.50, Not sighted= 1.00-1.75 to the animal listed in the questionnaire. African giant rat was also moderately sighted (3.25) followed by lizard (3.23) and cockroaches, frog, mice and spider (3.10, 3.10 and 3.08 respectively).Some species of wildlife cause damage to our food (3.51), some species have the capacity to transmit deadly diseases (3.08), they have the capacity of creating noise or smell nuisance (3.22). The study concludes that Makurdi metropolis is diverse in urban wildlife composition and that the respondents have different interactions and derive different benefits from the existence of wildlife in the city.
