Abstract
This research work explored the relevance of teaching social studies in primary schools in Tarauni Local Government Area. The objectives of the study were: To find how instructional material could can be included in the teaching of social studies in primary schools, To find the problems involved in teaching of social studies in primary schools. A descriptive survey research design was used for this research work. The population of this study comprises of all pupils admitted in four (4) selected primary schools in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano state. Based on findings, the research concluded that there are inadequate qualified and experience Social Studies teachers, inadequate infrastructure, lack of in-service training and the relevance of teaching Social Studies in Tarauni Local Government. Some recommendations were made for effective and enhancing teaching and learning Social Studies. 1. Provision of urgent action on these factors that militate against teaching and learning chemistry. 2. Government, school authorities and other organization that has the responsibilities should provide incentives to Social Studies teachers and student especially those who are teaching Social Studies in rural area. ...
