It informed the health officers of the understanding of confidentiality in the image of the hospital. Among the objectives was to ascertain the knowledge of health records professionals towards confidentiality in the university of Ilorin teaching hospital and to evaluate if health records personnel observe the ethics relating to the practice of confidentiality in the university of Ilorin teaching hospital. Furthermore, to find out how the practice of confidentiality can affect the image of health records officers in the university of Ilorin teaching hospital. This research uses descriptive survey to sample staff of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 91 questionnaires were distributed out of which 86 were retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that, health information professionals be deployed to health information management department to function as health information professionals, therefore, the management should employ trained health information professionals for effective management of patient’s health records. Meanwhile, the findings also revealed that there is the existence of unauthorized user access to patients’ records. Therefore, the management should put some measures in place in order to reduce or eliminate unauthorized user's access to patient health records, and also implement and enforce measures to improve privacy, security and confidentiality of patients’ health records.
