Abstract
This project work was conducted to the factors affecting exclusive breastfeeding among nursing mothers at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Ilorin, (Maternity Wing) Amilegbe. It informed the health officers on the understanding of nursing mothers on factors affecting their children breastfeeding in the hospital. Among the objectives was to determine the level of awareness of mothers on exclusive breast-feeding in the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Ilorin, (Maternity Wing) Amilegbe and to determine the practice/acceptance rate of exclusive breast-feeding among mothers in the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Ilorin, (Maternity Wing) Amilegbe. Furthermore, to assess the women's socio-demographic influence on exclusive breastfeeding in University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Ilorin, (Maternity Wing) Amilegbe. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work. This research use descriptive survey to sample nursing mothers attending the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Ilorin. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 56 questionnaires were distributed out of which 50 were retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that mothers should attend the health facility for good antenatal care to prepare them fully for lactation. And also mothers should determine to breastfeed by taking a nutrition diet before and during the lactation period to promote the availability of breast milk. Lastly, breastfeeding should continue well into the second year of life and longer if possible, since babies fed on breast milk have fewer illnesses and are less often malnourished than babies who are fed on other foods. ...
