Abstract
This research work was conducted to assess the perception of nursing mothers on socio-cultural factors affecting infant feeding practice in Ilawe-ekiti, Efon local government area, Ekiti State. It informed the health officers on the understanding of nursing mothers regarding infant feeding practices in the community. Among the objectives was to identify the pattern/method of infant feeding practice among nursing mothers in Ilawe-ekiti, Efon local government area, Ekiti State and to assess the cultural factors affecting infant feeding practice among nursing mothers in Ilawe-ekiti, Efon local government area, Ekiti State. Furthermore, to assess the social factors affecting infant feeding practice among nursing mothers in Ilawe-ekiti, Efon local government area, Ekiti State. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work. This research uses descriptive survey to sample nursing mothers in Efon local government area, Ekiti State. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 250 questionnaires were distributed out of which 2440 were also retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that it is recommended that Health education should be intensified for mothers on infant feeding practices to discourage them from these negative religious/cultural beliefs affecting their infant feeding practices to ensure positive health behavior among them concerning this subject matter and also, mothers should visit the postnatal clinic very early in order to curb the initiation of any inappropriate infant feeding practice. Where mothers opt to formula feed, they should seek necessary practical advice in order to implement formula feeding effectively and safely....
