Abstract
This project titled“The Influence of Industrial Action on the Academic Stability of Students” with a case study of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, aimed at examining the perception of an average university student on industrial action by Labour Unions in the university including Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and to assess the extent to which disruption in the academic program in Universities influence students’ learning effectiveness. Questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection and the results of the finding reveal that industrial actions make the student develop criminal tendency, disruption of academic calendar and poor academic results emanating from strike action. The findings also revealed that students’ learning effectiveness is impaired through lost motivation and concentration, depression, mental health issues and brain drain. The study concludes that strike is inimical to academic success and as such should be avoided. The research also recommends that there should be a better, logical and objective application of the principle of collective bargaining to avert industrial disharmony between the government, university management and unions in the universities.   ...
