In this study, sandstone of Doko/jima members were mapped and described to evaluate the mineralogical composition. Samples were further subjected to petrographic description, scanning electron microscopy(SEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD) and X-ray fluorescence(XRF) to evaluate the mineralogical composition of the Doko/Jima member. Geological field study reveals that it is moderately weathered, bioturbated, brown to dark brown medium to coarse grained, moderately sorted of angular to sub-rounded, and monocrystalline to polycrystalline grains. Pebbly sandstone exhibits structures like cross bedding and fractures. All these contingent supports alluvial depositional environment of possibly high energy current at the course of the deposition. Results from the integration of petrography, scanning electron microscopy, XRD and XRF highlight quartz, kaolinite and goethite as the major authigenic mineralogical composition of the Doko/Jima member. They potentially alter pore related properties of the sandstone. ...Preview Download Preview +Other Geology project topics and materials you might be interested in»The geological and geophysical investigation of groundwater potential of part of Minna Gidan Makun Pago sheet 185 nw north central Nigeria»Geology and mineralogical investigation of reservoir sandstone in part of Doko and Jima
