Abstract
This research work focuses on assessing the knowledge of obstetric complications among women of reproductive age attending Dr. Karima Women and Children Welfare Clinic in Tudun Wada, Gusau, Zamfara State. Obstetric complications can pose significant risks to maternal and child health, making knowledge about these complications crucial for early recognition and appropriate management. The objective of this study is to evaluate the level of knowledge among women of reproductive age regarding obstetric complications in the specific context of Dr. Karima Women and Children Welfare Clinic. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, and data were collected through structured questionnaires and interviews. The findings indicate that the knowledge of obstetric complications among women of reproductive age in Dr. Karima Women and Children Welfare Clinic is varied. While some participants demonstrated a good understanding of common complications such as postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia, and prolonged labor, others displayed limited knowledge or misconceptions about these conditions. Factors influencing knowledge levels include educational background, previous obstetric experiences, and access to healthcare information. Participants with higher educational attainment and those who had received antenatal care demonstrated better knowledge of obstetric complications. In conclusion, this study highlights the varying levels of knowledge regarding obstetric complications among women of reproductive age attending Dr. Karima Women and Children Welfare Clinic in Tudun Wada, Gusau, Zamfara State. Targeted health education interventions and improved communication between healthcare providers and patients are essential for promoting awareness and empowering women to make informed decisions about their reproductive health....
