Abstract
Prescription is the act of indicating one or more drugs to be administered to or taken by the patient, its (their) dosage and the duration of the treatment. It is an individualized and dynamic clinical process. This study is to determine the knowledge, attitudes and practice of prescription among the students of School of Community Health Science, College of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State. In this descriptive cross-sectional study, a structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 103 respondents using a systematic random sampling technique to select respondents from School of Community Health Sciences. The study revealed that the students (60%) knew about prescriptions but only (20%) followed prescription patterns. However, knowledge about Prescription patterns was lower (average of 12%). the common errors found in prescription in this study shows that over prescription were 9 (9.7%), wrong drug 10 (10.8%), were 12(13%) wrong route of administration, 26(28.2%) were wrong abbreviation, and the majority were due to overdose 35(38%). This study shows the drugs commonly prescribe 47(51%) of the respondents prescribed Paracetamol, 25(27.1%) Ibuprofen, 11(11.9%) Ciprofloxacin, 6(6.5%) Amoxicillin, and 3(3.2%) of metronidazole are the lowest of prescribed. It is recommended that the students should be educated about the prescription of drugs so that they stop prescription errors....
