Abstract
The study examined the assessment of factors affecting the choices of television programmes among viewers of government and private television stations: a study of DBS and Channels TV. The survey method which makes use of questionnaires as a research tool was adopted for the study. Data were sourced from 250 respondents who are viewers of both stations. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. Findings revealed among others, that audiences watch television programmes for different reasons and are influenced by different factors, there are various programme choices of the audience and a frequency to which programme they follow. Against this backdrop, this study recommends that television stations can spice up their programme schedule with exciting and educative programmes, television stations should be open to allow audiences to have a say on their desired programme....
