This study was conducted to assess Government Policy and Development of Health Information Management Practice in Nigeria and chose Federal Medical Center, Yenegoa as the case study. Among the stated objectives are to find out the development of Health Information Management Practice in Nigeria. Secondly, to find out the need for Health Information Management Practice. And to find out the roles of the Health Records Officers’ Registration Board of Nigeria in the development of Health Information Management Practice. Descriptive survey method was employed, a sample size of 89 HIM staff in the hospital was used and a complete enumeration sampling procedure was adopted for the study. The researcher instrument used by the researcher was a designed questionnaire with 89 respondents returning the questionnaires. Descriptive statistics using frequency table, percentages, and mean were used to present the data gathered and discussed accordingly. Findings revealed that 56% of the participants agreed that the introduction of electronic health records is an innovation of professionals in the development and 69% of the participants strongly agreed that HIM provides efficient patient data management in the hospital. It was therefore recommended that There is a need for efficient patient data management in the hospital so as to provide efficient care to the patient.
