Abstract
The research study evaluates the attitude and perception of health workers towards the use of electronic health records in 303 MAG Nigeria Air Force Medical Centre, Oloje, Ilorin, Kwara State. The study is out inform health officers, especially those in the armed forces about the attitudes of health workers toward the use of electronic health records. Among the objectives are to establish the need for the introduction of electronic health records in Nigeria Air Force Medical Centre, and to ascertain if the implementation of electronic health records aids easy retrieval of patients’ health records in the centre, and to ascertain if electronic health records have helped to eradicate duplication of patients’ health records in the centre. Research questions were formulated based on the objectives of the study. Review of related literature and other books was carried out to have a sound knowledge. Descriptive research design was used and the target population for the study was the staff of the hospital. Taro Yamane sampling technique was adopted and 100 questionnaires were distributed and 70 questionnaires were retrieved at the response rate of 70% through a self-administered method. The findings revealed that there was a great perception of health workers towards the use of EHR positively affecting the quality of care and this study further shows that the majority of the participants were able to demonstrate and understand what Electronic Health Records are all about. It was therefore recommended that there should be the provision of alternative power supply and an adequate programme should be organized in various departments to educate health workers on the merit of electronic health records. Lastly, management should ensure that staff are adequately motivated to discharge efficient and effective duties. Keywords: electronic health records, attitude, perception, and health workers...
